Privacy Policy

In short: Smack hides who wrote each message from other users, but we do keep that information on our servers so we can act on abuse reports. Anonymity here is a presentation feature, not a guarantee of untraceability — please read section 3.

Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Getbega Tech Pvt. Ltd. ("we"), a company registered in India, handles information in the Smack app.

1. Information we collect

  • Phone number — for authentication, via Firebase Authentication.
  • Display name and avatar selection — your profile.
  • Messages and group membership — to deliver the chat service.
  • Push notification token — to send message notifications.
  • Your block list — so blocked people stay blocked across your devices. It is private to you and readable by no one else.
  • Basic device and diagnostic data — to operate and secure the service.

2. How we use information

We use your information to provide and secure Smack, deliver notifications, and enforce our Terms — including moderation of reported content.

3. Anonymity — what it means

Within a group, messages are displayed without a sender name or avatar. However, sender information is retained on our servers so we can respond to abuse reports and comply with legal obligations. Anonymity is a presentation feature, not a guarantee of untraceability.

We never reveal who wrote a message back to other users — including when you report or block them, and including in your own list of blocked people.

4. How information is shared

We use Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Storage, Cloud Messaging) to run the service; your data is processed on Google's infrastructure under their terms, which may involve servers outside India. We do not sell your personal information.

5. Data retention and deletion

You can delete your account at any time in the app, under Profile → Delete Account. This removes your profile, removes you from groups, and deletes your authentication record. Some data may persist in backups for a limited period.

6. Your rights

Depending on your location — including where the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (India) or the GDPR applies — you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Contact us at info@getbega.in.

7. Children

Smack is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

8. Changes

We may update this Policy and will revise the effective date above.
